At Fruitful Acres we raise Nubian goats, Katahdin sheep, Salmon Faverolles chickens, Muscovy ducks and we also keep a few turkeys and guinea fowl running around for good measure. We try to raise all of our animals on as natural a diet and in as natural a way as our small acreage allows with an eye toward self-sufficiency.
We’ve lately added a handful of purebred Kiko does and a 5/8 Kiko-3/8 Boer doe that we breed to our Nubian bucks due to the ongoing demand for goat meat. We consider these crossbred animals to be terminal, but we do sell any animals reserved ahead of slaughter and/or castration time to interested buyers for any purpose they may choose to use them for. These animals are all polled or disbudded at birth for their safety around our fencing, hay and mineral feeders and other equipment.
All of our lamb and goat meat products are raised and finished on a grass/forage based diet. We carefully source non-GMO hay when pasture isn’t sufficient to meet the nutritional needs of growing lambs and kids, pregnant or lactating mothers and breeding males.
